| Chiropractic philosophy is based on the concept that the moment a vertebra is no longer aligned with the others or if it’s movement is compromised, this can provoke an interference in the transmission of messages from the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to the rest of the body. This articular dysfunction, in traditional Chiropractic terms, is referred to as a subluxation.
Messages come and go between the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system via nerves. The sending and receiving of information between the two is also dependant on the passageway between the vertebrae. A healthy spinal mobility will ensure that these messages will arrive to the muscles, glands, organs etc. of the body.
Any type of stress, be it physical, biochemical, or emotional, that is greater than the human organism can handle, can provoke these articular dysfunctions or subluxations.
The chiropractor’s job consists in, after an accurate visit which includes a static, dynamic, and functional analysis of the spinal column, to adjust the blocked vertebrae and correct the imbalances in the structural system with manual, non-invasive treatments. The objective of which is to remove the interference created by these dysfunctional vertebral joints and therefore allowing the normal function of muscles, lymphatics etc, as well as flow of energy throughout the body.
Pilates, on the other hand, is a gymnastics method that is a physical as well as a mental exercise that uses specific pieces of equipment to train the entire body. This discipline helps to improve core strength, flexibility, balance, posture, and coordination and can be personalized to any age range as well as physical capability.
Invented and developed by the physical therapist Joseph H. Pilates, this exercise method became appreciated during the 1960’s by the most talented ballet dancers of the time. In the following years, thanks to important collaborations in the medical world, it became accepted for it’s potential in rehabilitation.
Today Pilates enjoys world wide recognition and is destined to keep growing thanks to the wonderful results it is capable of obtaining. |
